Vacation time in Camp Wood, Texas!

Enjoy the peace and quiet of the Nueces Canyon at Mill Wheel. The river is flowing by and the birds are singing. Butterflies light on the bushes and sip the sweet nectar from the various varieties of delicious fruit offered. A pair of roadrunners stay in the picnic area and are spotted from time to time. Also, we sometimes see a swan swimming on the river behind the River House. This is “country at its best”!

Country dwelling also has its drawbacks. You may see a mouse, a lizard, spider or even a snake. These are some of the things that go with country life and caution should be taken as you trek along, enjoying your stay here.

Mill Wheel has been a favorite swimming hole in this area from as far back as the 1920’s. The river runs deep here. It is crystal clear and looks can be deceiving. What may look to be 3 foot deep may actually be 10-12 foot deep. Swim at your own risk. Use water safety rules and never swim alone. Small children may enjoy playing at some of the numerous crossings that are available to the public.
